Peter Milne - Counsellor in Te Atatu Peninsula

Peter Milne has worked in mental health for more years than I've been alive, how's that for an incredible thing to be able to say! I sat down with Peter this week to talk more about what he does. I refer clients to him and have heard great things. Plus - of course - he works in West Auckland, right here on the Peninsula in fact! And we all know how passionate I am about mental health services that operate from less 'fancy' areas. Nothing against Ponsonby and Remuera, but sometimes it can be quite difficult from residents from the city outskirts to make that kind of trip in. Anyway, I digress..

Peter has therapy in his blood, with his mother being a pioneer in the area of sexual abuse treatment in Auckland. He's worked as a psychiatric nurse, nurse therapist, and finally in private practice, where he's been for several decades. He has a great deal of experience working with men, including being involved in the early days with Man Alive in Henderson (they run various non-violence programmes for all ages). He has a particular interest in working with sexual and physical abuse, relationship concerns, anger and stress management, parenting, as well as grief, loss and depression.

He also works at Home and Family Counselling, which offers low-cost counselling on a donation basis.
